About Skeleton Key (2018)
Skeleton Key 2018 is a Halloween misc item that was added with Halloween Event 2018, which began on October 25, 2018, and ended on November 12, 2018. Its only use was opening the 2018 Halloween Box. A key could be earned from the Main Event, a 100-tier track where every tier cost 100 Candies, and the first tier was free.
The first key came at Tier 7, which took 600 Candies to reach. Players could also buy a key straight from the Candy Exchange for 100 Candies. It cannot be earned anymore, so trading is the only way to get it now that the event is over.
Appearance and Best Pairings
Skeleton Key 2018 is a white key with a modeled skeleton head on the handle, and the head has dark eye and nose sockets. Since it is a misc item, it has no weapon pairings to suggest.
Skeleton Key (2018) Background
The 2018 Halloween Box could only be unboxed with a Skeleton Key, so every pull from it started with one of these. The box held Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Legendary weapons, plus two godly knives, Boneblade at a 0.2% chance and Chroma Boneblade at 0.004%. Chroma Boneblade was the first chroma weapon ever released in MM2, so each key was a ticket to the game's first chroma.
It was also the first Halloween key players could trade. Each event after it tied its box to a key of its own, such as the Pumpkin Key that opened the 2019 Halloween Box, and the same idea carried into Christmas Event 2018, where the Snowflake Key 2018 opened that year's Christmas Box and cost 100 Snowflake Tokens. Because the 2018 box is gone, a Skeleton Key does nothing in-game today, which is why it is collected and traded as a keepsake of the first Halloween box.
