About Chroma Heat
Chroma Heat is a chroma knife obtainable from the Rainbow Box, the same crate that holds its base godly counterpart, Heat. The box costs 1,000 Coins, 100 Diamonds, or 1 Mystery Key, and Chroma Heat drops at a 0.004% chance, while the base Heat sits at 0.2%. The Rainbow Box has been in the shop for years and still sells today, so both versions stay obtainable through direct unboxing rather than trading alone.
Trading is still the faster route if the drop rate isn't worth chasing, and its value has dropped sharply since release, in line with most other chroma weapons in the game.
Appearance and Best Pairings
Chroma Heat resembles a black dragon breathing a flame that shifts color instead of staying a fixed orange. The guard forms the dragon's head, the handle is wrapped in a paracord pattern that alternates in color to match, and a pointed flame pommel sits at the base of the handle.
With no Set partner to match it, Molten works well as a gun pairing. It carries the same fire-and-lava color language, an orangish-yellow molten texture running across the body with a dark red section on the handle, close enough to Chroma Heat's black-and-flame look to read as a matching loadout even though the two were never released together.
Chroma Heat Background
Chroma Heat's box has changed names twice. It started out as the MLG Box in MM2's early years, got replaced by the Chroma Box over copyright concerns, then was renamed again to the Rainbow Box in August 2016. Heat is the only weapon that survived all three versions of the box, and it shares that survival with just one other item, Shiny, from the Chroma Box era specifically.
Before the Season 1 update removed it, Heat had a second use outside trading. Salvaging it produced a Fire Orb, and that Fire Orb, along with Tides and Seer, went into crafting a weapon called Flames at the crafting station. That recipe was pulled on May 25, 2019, when Season 1 removed Flames from crafting over duplication concerns. Heat had an even earlier crafting role too, pairing with 100 Gifts to craft Chill during the 2015 Christmas Event.
